Uh oh (cracked Aluminess) - Page 3

...so I loaded all of my bumper project parts in the car and headed to the powder coater this morning....

I threw the spare tire swingarm in the car to show the powdercoater the color that I needed.......and on the way home it occurred to me that Aluminess has added a gusset to that very joint, so I'm sure jage is not the first one to have this failure.

A little meth for cooling. Snow performance meth/water injection kicks in at 10psi boost and keeps temps down under load. Pretty simple system and it works well. Based on my experience I think this is well sorted solution to keeping exhaust temps lower. 5 gallons lasts a couple years.

Jage, now is the time to beef up the bumper if it has to be re-powder coated. I had extra hinges added. They also added some stuff to keep the spare riding slightly on the bumper. Or do what Zeta did.

Id be super interested in a post just on this, as others I've talked to would also. Size, number,location of nozzles etc...

Well maybe so the useful information is at the top instead of buried under my problems.

Also I just dropped it at a local welder to get it patched temporarily.

Got the arm back from the welder. This is a temp fix, I might go back and add a gusset or send to aluminess after my trip. We'll see how it holds up, it might be the 10 year temporary fix!

Also then this happened. Utterly destroyed. I don't mind the sun fading but I've had straps in the sun for a dozen years with nothing but color fade. These, like many before me, were paper-mache tier after the UV bombardment. They basically disintegrated in my fingers- really just glad it didn't happen on the road because they looked fine and came off fine, it was only in putting them back and trying to slide the strap over they disintegrated.

After putting my speedy stitcher awl through my finger trying to replace the straps I just said dirty things and bought another Trasharoo. I couldn't find anything that was such a good size and shape that I don't mind putting nasty things in. It's sad the straps are such garbage (see: http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...ves-20165.html) because otherwise the Trasharoo is really the best. I'm pretty sure my original is still going strong despite being practically white from the sun when I passed it on.

I have a remedy in mind but that will have to wait for a new thread!

Mine disintegrated pretty much along the same lines, though frankly mine spent very little time installed, and spent most of it's life in the garage.

I once called to inquire about getting one made from different material that was more UV friendly, but was told there all the same. When I asked about changing the material he said if he did he would have to raise the price. Personally, I would be willing to spend more if it resulted in a longer lift span, but he said he didn't think they would sell if he raised prices. Instead he was willing to replace mine at no charge, which he did. So, you may be able to call when yours rots out and get a new one for free.
