Thanks Jack K, good idea! I have been searching unsuccessfully (and buying, unfortunately) a number of different padlocks in an attempt to find one with a long enough shank and wide enough spacing to fit between the two Aluminess swing arm holes. In the meantime, have been using a bicycle cable to lock the two together, but I like your solution!

Thanks vandiesel, but like I said, "that's just the backup!"

I too have been concerned with the Aluminess latch releasing at in inopportune time, but also the easy of opening the swing arms to get to the doors if there is no safety type lock keeping them together. My swing-arm pinholes are off alignment by about 1/2", so I had to find a lock of sorts that would work...am now using a Bulldog Adjustable Trailer Coupler Lock. Nice part is when its on its not easy to access. so that in-itself is a slight deterrent. I attach with the locking cylinder below the swing arm hole.

If the holes align, something along these lines could be used:

We ordered a set of 12 American Locks all keyed the same for all outside and inside needs. Not sure the exact length, but we have been using one for our swing arms for 5 years. Do duct tape over the keyholes and lube them every quarter.
