Vantonio Vanderas gets a Penthouse Pop Top Install EB top on RB van

It’s starting. This will be a slow process so don’t expect too much of me, but I just picked up the top and will remove the shell to redo the raptor liner in black and replace the hardware with new T bolts. I also intend to line the crossbars with chromoly pipe and use shoulder bolts as boywonder suggests.

Any tips on templating the cutout would be greatly appreciated.

I’ll be shortening the side rails as AndrewST did in his thread and will then either make a fairing or add fiberglass to the front of the shell to make a snug fit on the roof line.

Thanks and I’ll try to keep up with posts as I go along. Just need to figure out the cutout sooner than later.

Well, we’re off to a fun messy start. We popped the top for the first time and discovered butyl tape in a lot of places it’s not supposed to be.

I’m grateful to have the top and to have saved $ versus buying a new one but I really wish CCV would have covered the butyl with something when they removed the top from the old van before lowering it and shipping. It’s been a mission cleaning it up with heat, scrapers and solvents. Still not sure how to get it off the inside of the canvas...

Will all that said I’m still stoked to have it and to be getting it prepped and done right! Hoping to be done cleaning it and lift off the shell this weekend.
