View through bikes with Front Hitch [split]

I just put a front hitch on my 2008 E-350. The problem I have is my bike rack mounts the bikes really high and while I can see over/through the bikes I think the CHP might have a problem with it. My current bike rack is a Performance 3-bike rack where you hang the bikes on the rack by the top tubes. Any idea for a low mounted bike rack? I was thinking a 2-bike tray rack or a fold-up cargo tray with two bike racks mounted on the cargo tray.

Some RV stores carry a drop hitch, which is actually one end that goes in your hitch and a drop to another end that is another hitch. If there is some way to shorten the actual rack it would probably be better for your ground clearance though.

Re: View through bikes with Front Hitch [split]

Part no. 65053 "Front Mount Trailer Hitch by Draw-Tite,Hidden Hitch and Reese" from www.etrailer.com $150.00 delivered. No photos. The nuts and bolts part was easy. Cutting the plastic bumper trim was easy. Cutting the deflector under the bumper to fit around the hitch was tricky. The diagram they send with the hitch wasn't a big help. You can down load the instructions from etrailer.com so you can see how it mounts before you order. Overall it a nice looking unit. I moved the license plate holder over on the right side of the bumper, but I also got the hitch mounted license plate holder.

Hope that helps.

Re: View through bikes with Front Hitch [split]

Looks like 65053 is a 2008, the front hitch for a 2005 is $173.... ... Not that I needed one in the first place.
