VW Seikel T5 extreme

Lately there has been a lot of discussion about fuel consumption obviously. How relevant will the E Series remain as the vehicle to modify?

The Sprinter is a statistically superior vehicle in many ways to the E Series but it's too big to go where we want to go even with 4x4.

Another platform alternative may be a modified VW van. See the link below.

Hi,

Intresting site you have suggested.
For those who do not know, VW buses (Westfalia, Euro Van) are the ORIGINAL Sportsmobile.
They are the gradfathers of every SMB today.
For some people the VW bus is just the right size.
For others it is too small, hence the Sprinter, Ford or GMC platforms.
Sprinter vans are big and best for road use.
They also do much better on fuel usage.
Obviously this is a personal choice, so to compare or say one is "superior" or whatever does not really apply.
When a camper van meets your needs, it is lots of fun and the owner is happy.
If you see needed improvements, do it or get a skilled person to make your ride even better.

Determining the superiority of one platform or another will be near impossible, since the measure is against the requirements of a diverse set of owners who have different likes and dislikes as well as different reasons and uses for a SMB.

Hi,
Aside of the Seikel, one can find in Germany and Austria 4x4 modified Mercedes Sprinter and VW Crafter. I do not know if you got the second one in the states!

Here are the links.
www.iglhaut-allrad.de
www.achleitner.com

Good MPG with medium powered engines.
Down side for my use is they dont have a solide front axle.

Andrew
P.S.Thanks for all the good information one can find on this forum, it helps me in my search.

I'm pretty sure that many (all?) of these European vehicles are not available for us in the USA. So they are interesting, but in a theoretical sense only to US buyers. Whether or not they will/can come to the USA is unclear. Lots of cool diesels have been on the market in Europe for years that never made it to the USA.
