Our Ladder is placed on the passenger side, away from traffic when in the city, on the same side as the barn doors it'll double as a spot to hold the port door (as the hinge is removed to allow max swing) and to hold climbing gear as we prep.
Roof for SUP, solar panel and large weather proof gear accessed via ladder.

I also use the rear door mounted ladder to hold my fly rod, all strung, when driving between drifts. That way I don't need to shove 9 feet of expensive graphite in The Van with everything else.
