Re: What is a good air compressor?

So an engine-belt driven compressor isn't really a viable option in a van? Maybe an A/C compressor or something?

Re: What is a good air compressor?

Oops, that's not very clear. I meant air-conditioning, not alternating-current. I'm just thinking that a 100% duty cycle and HI POWER option run from the engine's serpentine belt would be ideal, as long as it physically fits and is not terribly expensive.

Re: What is a good air compressor?

An engine, belt driven, compressor is an ideal way to go. Be sure to have a cutting torch on hand to cut out part of the frame, fenders, etc to get it to fit in....
If you can fit one into an SMB, more power to you.

Re: What is a good air compressor?

Oh, bummer.

I don't have one of these vans yet, so i can't check myself. But is there anywhere between the transmission and the transfer case, where there is a driveline that is spinning visibly?

If so, could you put the T-case in neutral and machine a pulley to fit onto that shaft, and drive a compressor there with the parking brake set and the transmission in D? Of course, that's assuming that there's room there for a compressor, which there probably isn't.

It's just a bummer to have a monster power source and not be able to use it and have to put up with puny little compressors (or spend a fortune for the nicer ones which are still half the CFM).

Re: What is a good air compressor?

To me the CO2 Power Tank has so many advantages.
Quick fill up, portability (does not need to be solid mounted) and good distance out of a tank.
Downfalls. You can run out of CO2.
Cost of purchase. ...All the good set-ups will cost us a chunk of change.
You have a $75K + van, how can you cheap out on air???

As with propane canisters, with CO2 you/I will have to determine refill requirements.

Some of the times posted for airing up tires is just crazy slow.
I am not that patient!

I haven't yet, but I plan to go Power Tank.
I haven't heard of problems too much from owners.
Only non owner nay sayers speaking the negatives.

What's that tiny blower coming out of your van hood?

Oh, that? That's just my OBA setup.
