Alcohol is a decent cleaner BUT you want to be sure it is not allowed to dry or evaporate on the substrates. When evaporated it leaves a white film that interferes with VHB adhesion. Wipe it on to clean the surface then immediately wipe it off.

I've not had much success with this process even in a dry area (interior) so not sure how effective it would be in an exterior application like wheel well trim.
