Cooling the 6.0 with an Aluminess Bumper
 
Could something like this cooling fan be mounted as a pusher on the lower portion of the rad's?

Seems logical but maybe there is a reason why it won't help???

You still have a problem with 6.0.

There is limited room to move air through the engine compartment. If too much air comes in the bottom of the radiator it may limit the air movement through the rest of the radiator.

All in all it should be better than not doing anything. Try it and let us know.

It will help your A/C in town. On the highway it won't move near as much air as the factory fan, so I doubt it will do anything for cooling when you really need it.

What about replacing the lower lights with some vents and use tubing to redirect the ram air into the lower half of the radiators?

Moving the hot trans cooler from the front of the cooling pack (cond, intercooler, rad) made a big difference.

Chris, I know you and a few others have added the louvers. I really want to and see the clear benefit. I can't seem to get past my concern with water intrusion into the engine compartment from above. Have you (or any others that have added louvers) had any issues with water into the engine compartment from above? I know the passenger side louver would be above some electric distribution.

As usual, Chris knows his stuff! Back in the 80s and early 90s I was an EMT/Firefighter with one of the rural Nevada fire departments. We had a couple ambulances, both running the 460 V-8 and C-6 tranny powertrains. During the hot summer months we had a terrible time with the heat under the hood getting so extreme, especially climbing mountain passes, that electrical circuits and things like radiator hoses would fail, disabling the ambulance. I heard of a shop up in Reno that would punch louvers in the hood and relieve all that heat, so I took the hood off one of the ambulances and let the guy do his thing. The difference was amazing! No more circuit breakers popping or hoses bursting. It worked so well we immediately took in the hood of the other ambulance to be done also.

The shop didn't just put in a few vents, as shown in Chris's picture. They actually punched them pretty much all across the entire top surface of the hood, and then repainted/refinished the hood so it looked factory. There was a LOT of air movement coming out the louvers once the engine was running and I imagine once the rig was up at speed the air movement was even greater. A great side benefit during the winter was that we no longer had to stop and knock ice and snow off the wipers and windshield. No matter how cold it was outside, the windshield was warm!

As far as water causing problems under the hood - we never experienced any problems with that. And really, I wouldn't expect that it would. Every vehicle I've ever owned I've used a hose to wash out the engine and engine compartment and caused no problems. Also, I understand that folks who regularly ford really deep water with their vehicles don't have to do much beside add a snorkel to get the intake up high, and maybe take off the fan belt to keep the fan from destroying itself.
