Anza Borrego - Sheep Canyon
 

Anybody interested in joining me on a 2 day trip (2/8-2/9) to Sheep Canyon in Anza Borrego in late January or February? Some great information in the link below. 4X4 is required.

Meet at Tamarisk Grove campground on 2/8. Leave around 9am and head up to Sheep Canyon. I'll be there Friday night if anybody wants to join us.

We went a couple of weeks ago with Brent and Mary Ellen Haywood - it is a great day trip or over night trip. (Trip Report) Three days??? Unless you are going out of the canyon and exploring the rest of Anza Borego or do a lot of hiking or sitting, I'm thinking 3 days is two too many.

The road is doable in 2WD right now as it has been graded - there was a lot of traffic driving in and out all day and many campers along the way - it was a holiday weekend.

There is a by-pass road cut around the water section - they don't want you in there anymore - but you do cross the stream a couple of times.

We would be interested in joining in if timing is good.

Yeah they go through and grade it every couple years, and then the storms come through and make it fun...

There is an alert on everytrail.com stating that tamarisk campground is closed until further notice.

I don't see the notice on the State's website so one of them has old information.

The 11 sites where they are building small cabins were closed. The ranger estimated they would be open again "some time in the new year" and will have a fee of $60 as opposed to the fee of $25 for a regular site. You should be able to make a reservation for a site by calling Reserve America at 1-800-444-7275 or online at reserveamerica.com.

Is this still on? I really want to get out & think I can make it on 2/8 & 2/9. I picked up my SMB in 12/12 but due scheduling issues I haven't gotten it out for more than a couple of snowboarding trips. I only have 1,800 miles on it with 600 of that driving it home from SMB West.

I don't have a lot of experience with extreme 4x4 but this looks like something i can handle but I may slow down the group. I've pretty much got everything I should need to get me out of anything I get myself into.

I'd love to see some other SMB's & see how others pack for a trip & use the space available. My van needs to get out & get dirty & the porta-potti needs christening.

Maybe it's the new next thang.....all SMB get togethers must include at least one JK (Rubicon) or an FJ per van. Our last 3 trips have included them. Sadly we will miss this trip with Tapatio and his trusty sidekick Brad but we will be there in spirit. Next time Amigos.

Just an FYI that I will be in the area, Coyote Canyon but maybe not up in Collins Valley tomorrow in my tan RB. I'll stop if I see any one waving to say hi! I see the Borrego Springs area weather report just lost 10 degrees from the high since yesterday! Darn It!!!

I'm out it looks like. I was told this afternoon I'll be needed at work this weekend unfortunately. I left a phone message but if anyone is meeting there tomorrow morning let everyone know not to wait for me. I was planning on meeting at the campground at 9 tomorrow morning.

Hopefully there will be pics posted so I can at least see what I missed.

Sorry I couldn't stay, Claudia was just too sick to stay. Sheep Canyon will be around for a long time....
