Re: Mitsubishi Fuso Based SMB
Scenario:
The clock strikes 6pm and the wife is driving, on back roads but still looking for a place to camp. Time for a beverage. Rather than hopping in the back, opening the 'fridge and...

Re: Best tire choice??
An inch of ice and warm (around freezing) temps are about the slipperiest conditions you can find. Actually, packed snow and ice gets fairly tacky below zero. I've studded many pairs of mountain...

Re: Mitsubishi Fuso Based SMB
If you open them in preview, can you click on the 'tools' menu, then select 'adjust size'??
That's what I do on my 6 year old mac book pro. I'd love to see this thing....

Re: Best tire choice??
I think you'll find most every set of studded tires also heavily siped, so at least in my experience it's tough to tell the difference. I think it makes sense that studs may increase your stopping...

Re: Best tire choice??
I've heard that some places don't allow carbide since they chew up the roads badly. In AK many of the highways develop trenches that require resurfacing every few years. I've heard that in these...

Re: Best tire choice??
What did you end up replacing those with? I bought the LTX AT2 partly on your recommendation and I've loved them. They're quiet, don't seem to have impacted my MPG and offer a decent amount of...

Re: Near Miss and Broken Trust: UPDATE
Sounds like you turned it on just the right amount, well done. A perfect example of how both parties benefit when they both do the right thing. Very impressive!

Someone definitely needs to teach them a lesson. I hope you're very polite though, an angry hostile stranger at my house, no matter how justified their claim, would be met with pepper spray at best,...

You can't cut in a switch to the wire going to the starter so it won't crank over? Sorry should have said key switch. Figured the starter works the same as a gas engine starter[/quote]

Re: Near Miss and Broken Trust
Maybe a gentle suggestion to the dealer that a few free oil changes would put your mind at ease, seeing as somebody could have been killed and it would be a shame if someone started calling Ford...

Re: Let's talk Security
I've never had the guts to throw the switch while running, though I've been tempted, but it would suck to loose power steering and brakes. I think that would be a hazard to my life, not just the...

Re: Let's talk Security
Yeah, I resurected a 3 year old thread, but for good reason. It's a good one.
I'm concerned about my van's security, and have some things to share as well as some questions.
First, what I did....

Re: how many miles per gallon do you get?
I seem to average 16-18 mpg with summer fuel, 15-17 in winter. I use optilube XPD additive, and have fairly low parasitic drag (stock bumper, no racks), although I'm a couple inches taller due to...

Re: Newbie questions re: buying a used van
Assuming the SMB you're looking at is a Ford, I would recommend having it looked at by a Ford dealer. When I bought my Van from a place in Denver (when I lived in Salt Lake), I had a dealer look it...

Re: 6.0 diesel: Turbine carbon issue ??
I bought my 2008 in 2011 with 19,000 miles...I know it sat for at least 9 months without being driven. Soon after, I got a check engine light (0299 code) which is a turbo under-boost, often caused...

Re: Trans temp?
I also see sustained temps of 200-212 when the outside air is around 100. Here's an interesting thread about Torqshift transmissions, which I believe the 6.0s have. Based on the temps associated...

Re: Newbie researching first SMB purchase
Congratulations, that's an awesome looking rig.
I am happy with my 6.0, and would buy one again over the V10, but I'm wondering what made you decide on the 6.0. It's interesting to hear...

Re: Bed Plate Leak
I took Herb's advice, and drove my van in to the dealer 200 miles before the next oil change to ask that dye be put in the oil to diagnose the source of my leak. I purposefully avoided the service...
