Re: Roc-Solid 120W Portable solar panel

Yes, I imported it myself. I do not recall the exact price, but shipping was not cheap ($200?); I think overall cost was roughly $900. Despite the extra cost, the unit is so much more rugged than...

Re: 2009 Ford SMB on CL in Oregon

Van sold last evening to a gentleman from Boise, ID. Van sold for very near my asking price. If you take a look at this 2008 for sale on the SMB site, very similar to my van, but $110k (!), makes...

Re: 2009 Ford SMB on CL in Oregon

That's my rig up for sale. It was a terrible hard decision for my wife and I to post it for sale. Been a dream for years, but life circumstances have changed for us and we are simply not using the...

Re: Van Specialties

Van Specialties does not really perform 'cookie cutter' conversions -- each one is customized to their customers needs. My wife and I had our complete build out done by VS and we do not regret the...

Re: Mojave in the winter: rattlesnakes

Anette,

Thank you for all the information. My wife and I spend a significant amount of our free time with out dogs -- mostly outdoors, mostly off leash. Like you, our dogs are very much our 4...

Re: Help: Connecting portable solar panel to house batteries

Hey Greg,

Great info. I had not thought about the house battery wrt to fuse accessibility. Thankfully, I can partially lower my batteries without too much trouble. If it becomes an issue, I...

Re: Help: Connecting portable solar panel to house batteries

Greg,

The connector you listed looks nice, but appears to be something more suited for home audio use, not for an RV type environment. I've read a bit more and I really like the marine terminal...

Re: Help: Connecting portable solar panel to house batteries

Sure, adding an inline ATC style fuse is not a big problem. My leads to battery are 8 awg, the only inline fuses I can find at the 'MAXI' style with 30 amps being the lowest rating I can find. Is...

Re: Help: Connecting portable solar panel to house batteries

Greg,

Based on your input, I've re-thought my connector strategy.

I've found this very nice marine grade DC connector, takes up to 8 AWG and can be used to 2 or 3 wire setups:

Re: Help: Connecting portable solar panel to house batteries

Thanks for the heads-up. The connector will be about as high as the battery bank, as least in the short term. I can always re-think this if I find myself doing water crossings.

Cheers,

Re: Mojave in the winter: rattlesnakes

Nice point. I actually thought about this last night: to even get to the Mojave, we will be drive 1000+ miles, from Portland to SoCal, on I5, of course. That is sure to be the most dangerous part...

Not to be Mr. Paranoid or offensive, but that's pretty dumb. Is that a policy that you simply adhere to without any evaluation or consideration of the circumstances that you'll be facing? I take...

Re: Installing a rear Aluminess bumper

If that is the hard part, then no problem at all. I've done quite a bit of older car 'resto-moding', which including all sorts of one-off light fab work.

Thanks for the info.

Well, he only asked about the bumper. Clearly the spare mount is more involved.

Just a bumper I would do alone, by hand. Bumper w/spare mount I would use a floor jack or another set of hands to...
