Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

Well I am not sure if you are looking for an update from me or anyone else but I do have some good news! I had the rear radius arm bushings replaced and they were totally shot. With the new...

Re: Transmission Controller

Update: I have the TCM-2000 transmission controller installed and operational. I have to say, the wiring was a bit of a pain but in the end having control over the shift points has improved the...

Re: cab insulation?

I am about to tackle the floor on my van as well. I am wondering if anyone continues the plywood subfloor into the cab area or do you discontinue behind the front two seats? If you do continue into...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

I talked with Don at Boulder Offroad this week and he wants to take a look at the urethane bushings and sleeves on the rear radius arm mounts. Unfortunately I wont have time to do that in the next...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

I hope so, but even the rubber boot looks like it has uneven compression on it.

Re: Transmission Controller

I started modeling the steering column components so that I can design a support bracket for the paddle shifters. There really aren't many good points to mount to that could provide a solid...

Re: Transmission Controller

The same company sells paddle shifter kits but they are obsurdly expensive and require an aftermarket steering wheel (no more air bags). That is not an option for me. Maybe if I come up with a...

Re: Transmission Controller

I believe it! With the final drive gearing and larger tires I think most of the "stock" tunes are wayyyyy off when it comes to shift points and TC lockup.

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

Update: I tried strapping the axle back and sending it over the same DW causing pot hole. It did reduce the DW even further and the vehicle recovered after just a few seconds, but it is still...

Has anyone ever used one of these really cool transmission controllers?

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

Agreed, looking at the van from the side...the more parallel the radius arms are to the frame the less you will see this effect since angle changes have much less horizontal movement. My question...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

Wouldn't that scenario occur in all radius arm setups if only one wheel drops? The side of the axle that drops into a pothole has to follow the arc of the radius arm. The as the axle drops, the...

I will give this a try. You are right, it is a no brainer. I just need to pick up some serious straps!

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

I definitely plan on keeping everyone up to date on my progress. Right now, I am waiting to hear back from Boulder Offroad so I can see what bushings are available for my radius arms as well as...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

I understand what you are saying about damping the tie rod. My point is that the first and most important issue to tackle is the movement of the axle, which is clearly seen in video #9 to be...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

I am not an expert on power steering but I will give your question a stab. Unlike your A/C compressor, which has a clutch and can disconnect itself from the drive belt, the power steering pump is...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

I wonder if I could just use Derek's brackets since the ones on my van are a factory Ford item. I bet my radius arm would be compatible with it. I would have to move the bracket back slightly to...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

In regards to my previous response, I will say that having the arms angled definitely stresses the poly bushings more than a parallel setup, which I could see leading to premature failure = movement....

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

I can't believe you waited until now to share this. This is obviously the CORRECT radius arm setup for minimum binding!

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

This makes perfect sense that it would want to follow those angular paths if the axis of rotation were fixed. Given that there are bushings at either end, the bushings will accept the angle ? by...

Re: Death Wobble - Possible Resolution

Nice models, did you download those parts or create them from scratch? What do you plan on using that for? I would love to have a solidworks model of my van, but I can't justify the time to do it...
