That's an interesting note on the heat @jjbusch. Really hadn't thought of that to be honest. I would also expect batteries inside of an engine bay to experience rather high temperatures as well...

I did notice that about the lids - a couple boxes...

I did notice that about the lids - a couple boxes didn't have them, and the lids on their own were the price of a whole box. Kind of odd.

I see on ebay there are some factory frame mount battery box options. Is it safe to assume that most any E350 would have the holes/nuts already for these? Are they passenger or driver side specific?...
