Cool Inverter required to run Norcold DE-0041TR?

We have a 2005 Dodge Sprinter SMB buildout with a Norcold DE-0041TR fridge. The fridge is supposed to have 12V and 110V capability, but will only run when the inverter is on even when the van engine...
