"Valve of Mystery" for toilet in 2011 SMB Sprinter

Does anyone know what the purpose is for this valve on the side of the marine toilet in my 2011 Sprinter SMB RB110S? I'm guessing that it might control the amount of water that each pump/flush cycle...
