Re: Solar Setups Different than SMB Solar?

You certainly have a point especially in winter, but as I said it is kind of like "zero x zero = zero." Since I live in Seattle, I chose there to make comparisons, and in winter the sun is REALLY...

Re: Solar Setups Different than SMB Solar?

Your design is not too different than our except with 1) more emphasis on solar capacity, 2) emphasis on camping year round, and 3) our "extra" solar load comes from choosing a 110 VAC water heater...

Re: Solar Setups Different than SMB Solar?

The box on top is a combiner box. It is there where the leads from each of the solar panels connect in parallel and to a larger gauge cable that comes into the box through the roof from the solar...

Re: Solar Setups Different than SMB Solar?

Great links. I actually based my estimates on the first link above using "Data Files in ASCII Text Format, Averages of solar radiation for each of 360 Months, 1961-1990 for 239 U.S. sites...." but...

Re: Solar Setups Different than SMB Solar?

Affordable Solar's estimate appears accurate. Using the Full Sun Hour (FSH) method to estimate solar output (see my post below) you get a similar estimate. I believe you are in SOCAL, and according...

Re: Solar Setups Different than SMB Solar?

As my post indicates, only 2 panels are installed as of now too. What I have found with two and just doing weekend trips, solar brings the batteries back up over the days between trips. A recent...

Re: Solar Setups Different than SMB Solar?

If the 2700 W-hr/day is the dc load from 12 V, relying completely on solar would require it to provide 225 amp-hr/day. To do this day in and day out taking the well-accepted 50% limit of discharge...

Re: Fuel Cells

Not sure how that compares to anything---are we talking 8.4 kg of hydrogen? Or maybe methanol? Where is this going? Do you own these? How much are they?
