I believe longer wheelbase makes for a more stable ride (certainly better for towing), however there are other things you can change to make for a smoother ride, including how you drive. I do think...

seems a propane system would be stealthier than diesel.
you don't have to start up your van in the morning to get hot water for showering or cleaning.
If you were camping that would be a different...
