Re: Dookie

A few little tidbits to update, but unfortunately no real photos (I know, shame on me). I got the Bilsteins installed and must say that it is a notable difference and money well spent. Much better...

Re: Dookie

A THIRSTY Santa (who has to pay his own credit card bills - boo!)! While I did accidently kick the glass over while installing one of the shocks, I'm happy to report it was already empty. :b5:

Re: Dookie

The Dookie is on the move!
We've been out on two trips now, the first being about 400 miles round trip to the Oregon coast. At that time the van still needed door and window seals so it was hard to...

Re: Dookie

We're hoping to take a trip the first weekend of June, so we keep plugging along making a bit more progress every day. After getting my battery cables made I've finally got the batteries mounted up...

Re: Dookie

It's been over a week, so it must be time for an update!

After securing the rear cabinet section, the laminate floor went down. I forgot how quickly you get instant gratification with the...

Re: Dookie

The next step will be to make sure I've got most of my wires run to the spots I would like them to go before permanently installing any cabinets.

So, my next task is to take this mess of wires...

Re: Dookie

You guys are all aggro on the overuse of fasteners! Perhaps I should just run a bunch of sheetmetal screws in there and then cover it up so people won't see it? :b1:

I also like the idea of...

Re: Dookie

Last weekend I made some progress with my battery location. I'm going to be using a pair of Group 31 starting batteries for now, and then will eventually move to a pair of group 27 deep cycles...

Re: Dookie

Thanks Leo! I'll try not to be too productive. You do have the advantage of having quite the little helper. At 17 months I really appreciate the tape stickers everywhere that my daughter adds, but...

Re: Dookie

Jage, I was trying to recycle some garbage wood for my template instead of using a perfectly good piece of cardboard. :a3: The truth is that I just got the little stapler in the picture and have...

Re: Dookie

Billwilson - my mom came and visited this weekend and brought me 5 boxes of unused laminate floor, so it will definitely be going in. Thanks for the assurance on that one. It is an oak pattern...

Re: Dookie

The last couple weeks have been pretty slow at work, so I was able to put a few extra hours towards the van interior. We are shooting for a 50-ish layout with the option to have a third captains...

Re: Dookie

Now that the van is in the garage it has been much easier to spend a few hours here and there working on things. I must admit I've also been spending more than a few hours drinking beers with a...

Re: Dookie

BP - I was just reading about your rig yesterday on EP! It sounds like you're getting it dialed in nicely. Yes, the 460 is a bit of a gas hog but you'll always have plenty of power. Glad to see...

Re: Dookie

Troy - that's awesome that your westy sold! The new owner should be stoked with all you've done. Can't wait to see what will follow in the VW's footsteps.

Z - I'll admit I paid a bit of a...

Re: Dookie

In the above post I mentioned I was having issues with the penthouse seating appropriately. After some thought I realized that I never trimmed the back of the plastic rivets that hold the bottom...

Re: Dookie

Jage - I was quite puzzled by the 'not straight' feature of the support bars. More specifically that they form more of a wide 'A' rather than being parallel. Before I evaluated my other parts to...

Re: Dookie

Thanks Sandi! I'll absolutely let you know if I am in need of anything. Although who expect a 26 year old van to need parts and repairs, right?

I made some more progress this week and am...

Re: Dookie

Thanks, Chris. The front end has pretty much totally been revamped - I'd be surprised if any of the parts are stock Pathfinder conversion pieces. Whoever did the work did a pretty nice job in my...

Re: Dookie

While I haven't made any substantial breakthroughs, I continue to slowly move in forward progression. I'm ok with that.

What I started with at the beginning of the day was a manky dirty top...

Re: Dookie

The Gear Vendors OD unit seems to work quite well. It was actually one of the big selling points of this van for me. There doesn't seem to be any issues - it just works. It does have a bit of a...

Re: Dookie

Thanks for the kind words, folks. Hopefully there will be more beers than tears along the way.

Last night I went to work cutting and shaping the previous two nights worth of repairs...

Re: Dookie

The interior as it came actually wasn't too bad. The front seats and rear folding bench had been reupholstered, there were two small shelf units, small drink table and pretty nicely done headliner....
