Mine is really soft, so is the replacement piece I have on hand. And I've never been able to get those plastic pins out without destroying them.

I wonder if you could just take it off. The stock plastic pins are likely to get destroyed removing them, but if you could find a reusable replacement, you could pull the rubber on arrival. It...
