Interesting. In my 1998 the button switches can turn off the center lights even when the doors are open. They work in reverse of what you are talking about. The only way to turn the center light on...

Plus, can't you just push the button switches on the dome light that are next to each light element to choose whether they go on or off automatically with the doors open? That's what I've done in...
