Wow,
Ah.....nice flooring! Tragic tale. Kind of glad I got to see something that will never be repeated. I hope your friend's husband has a good group of people to help him now. I don't know any of...

Re: Polar Bear 1

Couple of things, I'd go for a heavy duty vynl on the van floor. You can always throw some cheap carpet on it if you need to. The haunted house/yard video is great. Who did the paintings? Did you...

For an event of this size and scope...

Re: Polar Bear 1

As a former BURNER I am surprised anyone would be "overwhelmed" by one single thing at BM. EVERYTHING is overwhelming at BM at one point or another. That's just part of the experience in my opinion....

Re: Polar Bear 1

Loncoin is a fabric backed vynl floor covering material. Highly durable, used in high traffic situations like airport walkways etc. SMB uses it in their van conversions.
I gotta ask about the...

Re: Polar Bear 1

Just a suggestion...carpet holds dirt and wears out fast. If you put down something impermeable you can always put some kind of an area rug on top of that. Then it's easy to clean everything. I...

Re: Polar Bear 1

I used 3/4". I bought 2 10' sheets so I only have one seam right down the middle. I had alot of leftover pieces but have slowly used them for other projects. Suggestion for a template. I learned this...

Re: Polar Bear 1

The expanded metal is an interesting idea! If the guage is heavy enough and the open span not too great it should work. Put several people up there as a test and if it seems weak just throw down a...

Can't be too careful at Burning Man! I've actually seen folks fall off of the Playa there.

Re: Polar Bear 1

For Burning Man you might consider taking a farm jack and four jack stands and four squares of 3/4 plywood 12"x12" to set the stands on. to stabilize the van. When you get 2 people or more up there...

Re: Polar Bear 1

I like my V10 a whole bunch and there are plenty of used V10 vans out there. They have a long history of reliability with few if any "issues". I bought it used and had it converted to 4wd. I saved...

Re: Polar Bear 1

You could use your bottle jack as one then get another stand or a jack. I've never seen stabilizers built into an SMB. Some kind of crank operated scissor jack could work. Maybe a swing away trailer...

Re: Polar Bear 1

Suggestion...if you have room to carry 4 jack stands you can use them to stabilize the van. With even 2 people up top the van will move around. 3/4" is overkill but it's the rack itself that is...

Re: Polar Bear 1

Sorry about the girl friend! Why 3/4" ply on the roof platform? If you have support every 24" or so 3/8" would work and be lighter. My son did a roof top platform on his 86 Toyota van. It ended up...
