OK - All back together and everything works. I used the cables I mentioned in the above post. I had also locally bought the Dorman replacement ends and decided that new cables were a better path....

Thanks for the reply, mine is the right rear door. I took off the panel and exterior handle / license box and one if not both ends of that cable are destroyed. New cables on the way but I'm not sure...
