Re: Full-time planning

I think you should start a new thread on Sprinter fuel economy because it's such an important subject. And we are getting off topic.

MPG in the range of 17 to 19, if typical, is not much better...

Re: Full-time planning

17 to 19 MPG seems low to me also for a smaller low-roof van. Do you think that's typical or is your van below normal?

By the way, how did you get the scanner and AP so inexpensively? My son was...

Re: Full-time planning

Thanks for the link. However, that much fuel consumption seems excessive to me. A fuel rate of 1.25 gallons per hour of diesel is more than what a Prius uses to hold a steady 60 MPH. Just doesn't...

Re: Full-time planning

Do you have data to quantify how "much" more fuel an idling Sprinter uses compared to a generator?

When I researched this a while back (in order to run van's air conditioner off engine), the data...

Re: Full-time planning

Reported benefits of two alternators usually include:

Leaving van's electrical system intact
System voltage not limited to 12V
Greater total power

Roadtrek seems to be moving in all-electric...

Re: Full-time planning

Congratulations. And please keep us updated on progress.

What tipped the decision to go with 2500 instead of 3500? I recall you were struggling with chassis weight capacity versus all you wanted...

Re: Full-time planning

No doubt it's expensive. And I don't know cost if done later. Also don't know to what degree a stand-alone second system for house batteries would offset other costs like larger alternator or...

Re: Full-time planning

Small tank may be engine size specific. Worth checking into.

Re: Full-time planning

A second alternator bracket is available for stand-alone charging system. Capacity seems limited mostly by alternator weight.

Re: Full-time planning

Optional larger alternators. Seem to be engine choice specific.

Re: Full-time planning

100sqft, what these photos illustrate to me is one of the reasons I have some concerns about dual rear wheels on a narrow van. Particularly vans that are tall with high center of gravity.

When a...

Re: Full-time planning

JC, you may be thinking 13.2 Volts and not Amps. Sprinters are available with alternators that run in the 200 AMP range. For 2014 I think there may be one even larger. As far as I know the...

Re: Full-time planning

Jage, I hope I didn't cause confusion by using the word "extended" as used by Mercedes instead of as used by SMB. In my post above I was using it as Mercedes does to describe a 170-inch wheelbase...

Re: Full-time planning

Did you calculate weights based on 2014 model? If so, did you find a published difference between the standard I4 and optional V6 engines? I'm wondering how much engine choice affects cargo...

P.S. -- Update

100sqft,

I just saw Sportsmobile now has ProMaster section on their site. They expect to have first van in late August. The section includes pricing.

Re: Full-time planning

SMB e-mail to me suggests they plan to build on ProMaster as soon as they can. The question I have is whether RAM can fill the pipeline fast enough so everyone that wants one can get it fairly...

Re: Full-time planning

Thanks for link. Will certainly take a look at it.

If you are open to options beyond Mercedes brand you may want to also consider the new ProMaster van (Fiat Ducato based) in addition to small...

TO YOUR POINT OF A CLASS C OPTION: MY 2 CENTS

In your first post you mentioned Class Cs as a possible option, and that reminded me of my first RV purchased about 15 years ago which was a small...

Re: Full-time planning

100sqft,

All advertising for the super-single models I’ve seen from Europe and Australia focus on their ability to haul pallets of products. It appears the dual wheel models with only 38.5 inches...

Re: Full-time planning

As far as I know Mercedes has never made the super-single Sprinter option available in the US. You can find additional information from sites in Europe and Australia, but for now it remains a moot...
