Are these 32 spline axles the same size, just longer?

If same diameter with same spline ends, wouldn't it suggest Ford thinks a 32 spline is plenty strong? Otherwise why put them in a Dana 70...

Is swapping to rear disc as simple as replacing rear axle or do you need to upgrade or modify other parts? Are all brake and parking brake components the same? If not maybe cost could be a little...
