Yeah, his van has 3.55 gears so that really puts even the 5.4L well below its power band. It needed 3rd to cruise, and 2nd for every hill. But... it could still hold 45 MPH on a 6.5% grade, which...

The 5.4L tends to get about 1-2 MPGs better than the V10, but a lot depends on the final configuration. A heavy, lifted 4x4 probably won't do any better than the V10. Both will be guzzlers.

The 6.0 gets about 15-20% better fuel economy than the V10. Diesel around here is about 15-20% more expensive so fuel cost per mile is about awash.
