Our van was converted in 2000 and the penthouse was added 6 years later. Saw no rust or any other distress when I removed the foam for the top.

We had ours sprayed but it was done just between the "studs". Was rather messy when SMB-N installed the penthouse, even though I had removed most of the roof foam prior to their starting the job.
