Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Twolost,

Your oil analysis indicates you are using SAE 30W oil. Is that right? I think most everyone using Amsoil are using the Synthetic Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine Motor Oil SAE 15W-40. Probably...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Iron should not be that high after 18K miles. I would sample it again at the next change and see what it is. I've seen very few iron numbers that high on new engines, its normal to be elevated a...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Just talked with a friend that does all Ford work and he did tell me the van filter was not on top like the trucks. Sorry for the mistake. But it still does not change my view on the other issues...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

OK I just got off the phone with Brian in tech at Amsoil 715-392-7101. We all have the same access to the same people.

I asked way are they recommending the Donaldson filter over the Amsoil EaO26...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

THe original equipment oil filter is mounted on top of the motor. What has been done is an adapter block made so you can get oil for the side of the motor of both Amsoil filters. A much easier way to...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Unfortunately that is not a good solution for SMB 4x4 systems. Under extreme front suspension compression (passenger back wheel off the ground) the driveshaft U-Joint will hit and damage the OE...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Someone here really has no clue as to how this head really works! To me the best solution to this whole mess is take it off and use the OE full flow location and and a single bypass element and use...

Gene - that is completely different than what the instruction from AMSOIL recommend. Here is their instructions:

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

Agreed, but given that Jim has been an Amsoil rep for years, and has direct access to the senior-most techs at Amsoil, to the best of my knowledge, he's the most qualified person so far to make a...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

OK, now tell me if the bypass element is first inline and no restriction is after it how is it going to get the proper flow. That is very simple engineering.

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

The restrictor is there so the bypass element will get some flow. The way the head is made if you don't have some restriction it will get very little flow. All you need to do is call Amsoil at...

I was looking for my book but can't find it. I will get the info and post it here. I would really like to know why he thinks its to restrictive and how he can tell unless he measures the...

Jim was the original designer of the adapter. Then SMB refined it. Jim showed me the orginal at a direct jobbers convention in FL a few years ago.

Here is a link to the Donaldson catalog...

Re: Warning to 6.0 PSD Owners with Amsoil System

One thing you guys had better think about. Regardless of what SMB is saying and some others the Amsoil filters and the Donaldson have anti drain back valves. This acts just like a check valve and...
