Ours has no cross bar and the rear section is completely removable / movable. That was mandatory for our walk through design! All of our plywood bed pieces have stiffeners and we have had no issues...

SMB looks like a scissors lift to me with the entire roof load being run through two pivot point on each side that is hole...

Yep, that should be 165 degrees, not 15.
