Previous owner reports he had issues with it charging reliably. I'd guess this was from the factory, then.

Ahhh...I see. My setup will not have the solar charging the starting battery. I do have a switch installed by SMB to use the house battery to start the engine, so I'm covered.

Thanks for the test instructions. I'm electronically literate, so that makes sense to me...just checking the diodes out.

I think it's more likely that a fuse has gone in the house charging...

OK, load tested the starting battery and it's fine.

My separator is a Sure Power Model 1602. Should I be suspicious??? Is this something I can "clean" or is there a reasonable replacement?

That's correct if you're only looking at the output. I've driven with everything off and still not got a satisfactory charge rate. That's why I'm looking at the input now :a1:

Well, yesterday was 8 hours driving and the battery still need a few hours from shore power to top off.

What is a recommended alternator size for charging a 4D in respectable time? I have the 5.4...

Not to hijack, but I'm going to go solar because the alternator barely contributes a charge. I will go down 0.1-0.2 VDC on the battery per day, just with the fridge on 2/5 and 4 hours of driving. ...
