Well good for you! Now at least you know what to look for. In the past a lot depended on their 4x4 work load which is much lower these days. As far as the rear axle, he's just probably just trying...

Probably not. That said, why not just shoot them an E-mail? If I were in your situation, I'd strongley consider a U-Joint conversion but there are others out there as well.
