Re: And her name is Bivy...

Hi Brock,

We haven't taken it to Clark's Canyon yet, but have done high clearance roads. For example, the road to Queen Ann mine to hike Boundary peak is recommended for high clearance vehicles...

At the Lone Pine campground with Lone Pine Peak in the background. The north ridge is the right skyline.

Earlier in the day, on the north ridge of Lone Pine Peak. The campground where the first...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

Thanks! We parked it there for a few days and flew home to work, then flew back to Lee Vining for more playing, this time down to Lone Pine to climb Lone Pine peak.

Here's Lee Vining airport,...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

This was the first weekend we really used the van like we imagined, and what a great vehicle for what our passion is.

8:00 pm - We pull into our reserved campsite at Tuolumne Meadows only to find...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

The backpacking stoves these days are pretty nice in that they pressurize the gas, whereas propane will never be under a lot of pressure by itself as it just uses the partial-pressure of the liquid...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

One thing I am disappointed in is the cooktop. Why didn't they (the mfg, not SMB) put more holes in the burner so the thing heats better? We were making coffee and had friends in a car next to us. ...

2 Month update on new SMB Sprinter - Bivy

We've had our SMB for two months now and have had a chance to scratch up the sides, bottom out the undercarriage and generally put her to good use. Here is the scoop:

We are still impressed with...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

Yes, Sonora Pass is a beautiful area and not very crowded past Pinecrest. We camped off of Clark Fork road. Just some gravel forest service road that had unimproved campsites every now and then. ...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

Finally, this is what it is all about (for us). Although usually we have to hike at least a little bit to climb....

(To get this photo I actually tied off the rope leading to Betsy, ran and took...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

A couple of interior shots.

The small couch folds out into a half bed, perfect for a dog. Then there is a stand-alone piece that fits at the end (against the door) to make it a full bed.

We...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

We then went up Sonora Pass (well, I flew to Columbia and Betsy drove, then she picked me up there and off we went).

SMB really does a great job. The fit and finish are very clean and...

Bivy has been delivered!

OK!!

After 15 weeks of waiting, we flew to Fresno and took a cab with our dogs to SMB West. After a few hours on the check out we were off!

First, back to plane to load up Bivy with stuff in...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

Here is our floorplan. Funny that we anguished over it, but it ended up being very simple. Large raised bed with lots of storage underneath for stuff (climbing gear, biking stuff, etc.) I'm going...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

Thank you!

Here is the latest, the shower stall and tall cabinet being installed. These are the only things that stick up and block the windows. This of course cuts down on storage and some...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

It is a hard plastic sub-floor. The carpet lays down last and is removable for washing, which is great. There are a couple of options for sub-floor material - I think we went with the most...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

I didn't get a big air horn, I got the Stebel Nautilus which is rather compact. But it is very loud. I just ran wires through the boot under the driver's seat and found a (hopefully) protected place...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

So we've dropped off Bivy at Sportsmobile West for the conversion. It'll be a platform-bed-in-the-back, keep-things-to-a-minimum-to-keep-the-windows-clear conversion. But with some nice features...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

I did some additional work on Bivy. I bought and installed two more Mercedes OEM rocker switches for a 32 inch long top forward facing LED bar light and also a smaller rear light. I also installed,...

Re: And her name is Bivy...

The other Bivy project I completed was adding a rear camera. The multimedia guy at SMB can do it, but it isn't difficult and saves a little money.

It was actually more difficult than I thought,...
