Have you tried a lumber yard? Every lumber yard round here stocks it, but no box store.
Price for me is $29 for 4B and $45 for 3B both 3/4 5x5 I can't get 4x6 here yet. So maybe you are not...

As above, Baltic birch plywood. It's stronger than regular plywood and cheaper than hardwood faced plywood. Birch is a very light colored wood, so probably just a clear finish if you use 3B. 4B...
