Sure you can dump $9K into a 6.0L, but you can also just spend about $3K for a BP EGR cooler and a Ford oil cooler, and that is more than enough for 95% of 6.0L owners.

My concern would be that smog certification issues would be far more difficult than the mechanics and electronics issues involved.

South America had Ford Rangers available with 3.0L inline 4 PowerStrokes. I'd be all over one of those in a second if they had been available here.
