Re: Transmission Temperature
FWIW, a number of 7.3L owners (at least the F-series, not sure about the E-series) have replaced their factory trans coolers with the Ford trans cooler for the 6.0L. Quite a bit larger.

Re: Transmission Temperature
The lesson learned is that there is no absolute threshold for "above normal" temps, it all about monitoring for above your van's normal temps, which you will only know from keeping an eye on the...

Re: Transmission Temperature
Just the statement that synthetic will drop your trans temp by 40 degrees would make me want to steer clear of that shop.
I documented it here somewhere, but I went with the Mag Hytec pan and...

Re: Transmission Temperature
FWIW, when I got my X-monitor installed by Ken Imler Diesel in Sacramento (fairly well known and respected in the diesel community) he set my trans temp alarm at 230 degrees, so that's in the same...

Re: Transmission Temperature
Any idea on the time and cost to install? I've been fairly satisfied with my engine and trans temps (I do have a MagHytec trans pan), but excess heat is the enemy of all things mechanical and...

Re: Transmission Temperature
Bill,
Not much consolation, but get them to put their statement in writing, and document, document, document. If you have trans problems in the future, you'll have something to back up your...

Re: Transmission Temperature
I don't think Ford is willing to do that, for fear it will come back to bite them.
FWIW, my trans temp alarm (on my X-monitor) is set to go off at 230 degrees F. It has never gone off, but I keep...

Re: Transmission Temperature
WTF is a transmission scanner?
30-50 degrees difference is acceptable from one vehicle to another? What crap. Are there any other Ford dealers nearby?

Re: Transmission Temperature
Bill,
The thermocouple is a dedicated temperature probe inserted into the transmission. My '06 did not come with a factory Ford thermocouple, so at least for me, it has no bearing on whether or...

Re: Transmission Temperature
If I recall correctly, my X-monitor trans temp alarm is set to go off at 230 degrees, and it has never gone off.
My ScanGuage is not set up to monitor trans temp, but I've had my X-monitor...
