2006 FORD E350 - Sportsmobile 4x4 Van

That seems pricy for a 6.0 that hasn't been bullettproofed. 78K miles is about 40K past the life span of the worst engine ford has ever made.

Ok, well they allowed to to pass their QC be installed in their vehicles costing them millions.

From what I understand, Ford pushed it into production to keep up with the new Turbos with emissions etc. Navistar warned them about more than a few things and doing things it wasn't designed for. Then folks chipped them like crazy and took em back looking for warranty.

By 06 they were pretty dialed in. Damn good motor and trans combo if you treat it right. Mine has 120k on it with only one repair.

Agreed, have both the 7.3 and 6.0.
In three of our 6.0's they had 170k miles bone stock with no major failures when purchased before we tore down to "bulletproof" only as preventative measures. Love the 6.0 and great motor after the work is done.
But still wouldn't choose to own one that hasn't had the preventative stuff done.

Buying used is a gamble. Never know if they beat it, chipped it, didn't maintain it, etc. Mine was brand new and I don't pull with it and it get's a lot of kind highway miles and very little around town.

How long did your injectors last??

Dodge didn't do their diesel in-house either and also went with an outside supplier...Cummins. The 6.0 at the time produced more torque and HP than either the cummins or a duramax. But the emissions stuff and work-arounds killed the reliability. Poor maintenance just exacerbated the situation, starting with the Ford Gold coolant instead of an ELC (which International recommended). They might have avoided many of the issues by simply installing a coolant filter on every truck.

Anyhoo, this one has been debated/discussed ad nauseam. That's a nice looking rig for sure but no way I'd ever pay 86K for it. Geez, that 20k more than what I paid for my 2005 psd 7 years ago.

Your very right total gamble, that's why I changed everything I thought I should with not knowing the history. Cross that with not wanting to pull the body off again to get at the motor. Changed all injectors, even if they were not acting up, I just assumed they had never been changed.
