AMP Research Powerstep + SwitchPro 9100

I love my AMP Powerstep...But if I could change one thing it would be to turn it off at night in the deployed position so I don't make a bunch of noise every time I go out to pee.

I know they make a switch but it resets after 30 minutes, so no.

I know I can just remove the fuse at night and put it in in the morning, but there has to be a better way.

Has anyone run their powerstep through a switchpro 9100? Would this work? I figure mine is just connected to the battery so why not just run it through the switchpro? At night I could open the door with the switch on, then turn the switch off and I have the step deployed all night.

Would this work or am I missing something. Any help from the experts would be very much appreciated.

Find the AMP control box. There will be a purple and a purple with black trace coming out of that box.

Ground those wires and the steps will deploy and stay deployed until the ground is removed.

Purple is passenger side, purple-black is drivers side.

Use a double pole-double throw switch to switch back and forth between your existing door triggers and your newly added ground trigger. Connect the center pins of your switch to the AMP control box, connect one side of the switch to the existing door triggers, connect the other size of the switch to chassis ground.

Flip the switch one way and your AMP steps will see a ground and deploy and stay deployed until that ground is removed.
Flip the switch the other way and your amp steps will function as normal.

Hey KB, I'm near Spokane and my initials are KB. I probably mentioned that before...




Another route would be to switch the power (or ground) of the step, turning it off in the desired position.


I like Big_ern_101 DPDT suggestion, but I'm not a fan of leaving things powered all the time. I would say the same thing about the switchpro being powered all the time. I have a knockoff switchpro on my sxs, and it will eventually drain the battery, even with the ignition trigger off. I wound up installing a relay in the main power line so off means OFF.

Do the non-lighted AMP steps continue to draw any more than maintenance power when they are in the down position? Preference would always be to switch on the control side vs the mains side if there is neglibible power draw in the down position.

That knockoff switchpro must really be a little sucker for power, my Spod Bantam X draws 55mA at idle, I have never had to hard trigger it to off. I suppose if it was on a powersports app that I didn't keep on a maintainer I may have other concerns.

50ma is probably about right. It would take a week or two to be low. If I know it will be sitting that long I disconnect the battery, but sometimes I forget. The relay makes it automatic.
