Anyone actually remove their swivel base?

We do not foresee using the swivel feature on our front seats. There’s a cabinet immediately behind the driver seat which is in the way, for one.

Also, the seats are fairly high.

Does anyone know whether the seats will bolt directly to the base? Do all of the holes line up?

This is a question about Sprinter swivels, correct?

The swivels you have likely go atop the stock pedestal raiding the seat about an inch and half. I do not have direct knowledge of the way they mount.

In our E Series vans, we rotate the driver seat 90 deg to provide a nice place to sit with a view out the side doors.

In the Chevy Express van, the swivel I installed goes between the seat base and the seat.

If it’s mostly a height issue that concerns you, you could try swapping out the swivel for a low profile design like the one in the link below, which only adds 1/2 inch. Or you could always remove your swivel and bolt directly to the base.

Which van do ya have and what year is it?

Thank you,

It’s a 2013 sprinter. The weather is quite a bit warmer this weekend so I’m hoping to spend some time in the van doing a couple things.

Sussing out this swivels will be one of those things

I am not sure if the seats attach directly to the base with the same hole pattern as the swivel but I suspect they do. I have removed both of my seats on my 2017 Sprinter quite a few times to get at the electrical connections under the drivers seat and to get at my Espar heater under the passenger seat. They are easy to remove but they are fairly heavy and clunky to move around. Make sure you carefully reconnect the wiring harnesses going into the seats before you start the engine or you will trip an engine code and get a "Check engine" light. I learned this the hard way but fortunately was able to clear the code with my code reader without having to take it into the dealer. On mine, there are 2 separate wiring harness as I recall.

Yep ^^^^. I'd disconnect battery before unbolting seats just so you don't make the mistake I've made plenty of times of keying the ignition mid-project for something like unlocking the steering wheel or whatever.

Especially on a Benz. Probably takes a trip to the dealer to get rid of the light.

Thank you all for sharing your expertise.

I’ll wait until after our upcoming trip to see if we use the swivels.
