Baja (two wonderful opprotunities in '09) -OCT '09 Cancelled

Kind of a downer, but some decent tunes and on point. The moral of the story? A van comes to the rescue.

Now that is a serious bummer!!! Thankfully, with over 50,000 miles driven in Mexico we haven't had an accident. This is also one of the reasons we go down the east coast of Baja rather then the paved west side. No traffic to speak of and what there is goes slow.
Moral of the story - cross your fingers and head south.
Living life without risk is not living.

45 days more or less and counting. I'm ready for some sun and surf. Trying to convince the wife that we need to leave on the 20th, not the 26th.

Re: Baja (two wonderful opprotunities in '09)

Just wanted to remind everyone we're still on for Baja for the latter half of Oct, 09. Don't get you dance cards too filled up as Baja is not something to miss.

Re: Baja (two wonderful opprotunities in '09)

Hopefully, the Pig Cold will have run its course by Oct.

Re: Baja (two wonderful opprotunities in '09)

Just want to get it on the record that my wife is going to now let me chop the SMB, fully cage it and put it up on 44" boggers in a 6x6 configuration....

...because...

PIG'S FLU!

:a5: ah?

"If you've studied your Floyd carefully you'd know the pigs can flu."

Good thing you founded this forum, otherwise you'd have to be banned. :a1:

First night Gonzaga Bay? San Felipe to Gonzaga is one whole day trip for me and even then that's driving too fast and not enjoying the trip.

WOW!!! and my wife says Ive lost my dirt road mojo!
We get from Flagstaff, AZ to Gonzaga in one long day.
When the road was good and my truck and I was younger it was a 13 hour day,
Now its a 16 hour day.
Averaging 8mph on the 40 mile 5 miles south of Puertocitos to Gonzaga section.
I also drive the split roads instead for ~20% of that section.

Our first Baja trip in a smb is this fall, I sure hope it drives nicer than my old 93 f-250 which has averaged 3 Baja trips a year for the last 10 years and only fallen apart once.

Re: Baja (two wonderful opprotunities in '09)

Due to economic woes (fears might be a better term), etc., enough folks have dropped off that we're canceling the group trip in Oct. Hopefully, we'll be able to get it going in the Spring.

Scatter, we're still heading down for X-mas again. However, we are in negotiations whether we'll be flying or driving. Flights are damn cheap right now. I'd rather drive and play. Jen wants to fly. We'll see.

Sorry to hear that deminimis, but sure understand.
Anyone else what wants to head south to Baja this fall/winter, we got a beach shack ten miles north of Gonzaga. Come on down.... Got room and toys. :a1:

By the way, the road south from Puertecitos is on new alignment and paved for ten miles as of May. They're going gang busters on it and it'll be done much further by fall. I'll get the current info before we head back down. I expect that in about a year you'll be able to drive your corvette all the way down the east side. :a7: :r5: :n3:

Better do it while you can kids, it'll only be a memory pretty soon.

No dates yet jlrray, we kind of play it by ear. The fall is pretty super up here in the mountains and we hate to leave. October and November are also just about the best months in Baja. Decisions, decisions....

I know a lot of folks aren't comfortable heading south of the border, but the problems there are few and far between. I've made hundreds of trips by car, bike and plane with nary a problem.

Hope you can convince the lady as it's a trip that most everyone ought to do at least once.

I'll post on the forum when we decide to head south in hopes of talking a few of you folks into stopping by.

deminimis, let us know if you drive down the east side for Christmas.
