Carrizo Plains Camping Info Needed

My wife and I are going to Carrizo Plains on March 20-21. I have been there once before, but didn't camp there. Can anyone suggest where to look for good places to camp outside the developed campgrounds? We will be in the Westfalia, which is roughly as capable as a standard 2WD SUV. The last time we were there, we took the Elkhorn Road from the East end. I don't normally camp outside of designated campgrounds, but I would like to start working on my boondocking skills.

Darn, i had such great spots marked in my GPS then it got stolen and I hadnt backed up any of my info. Ive hunted there a few times years ago, real nice terrain, id like to go back.
