I'm no expert but I thought it took more than minor damage to be declared salvage?

It depends on the value of the vehicle. For older vehicles sometimes it doesn't take much damage for it to be totaled.

My buddy just had the insurance co. Call his 95 jeep a total and it runs and drives great. It was side swiped. He took the $2,200 and bought it back for $200. He just needs a side mirror.

Since the vehicle has a salvaged title would that make it a no-go?
My buddy has a Lambo Gallardo that was a salvage title because of frame damage, but he had it fixed and rebuilt by a shop, & it seems perfect now.
With a good thorough inspection could this vehicle be ok or are van's with salvage titles a waste of my time?

They wanted to total my van after a drunk neighbor hit it. I had to explain the value of a 4x4 as they were not clear on it..

I've also owned several salvage motorcycles, including a Honda with 600 miles on it and a bunch of scratches.. nothing actually broken.

Don't know about other states, but I'd have no problem buying a salvage vehicle in CA (after a quick frame inspection).

You might talk to your insurer about it but probably no different than the usual hoops you go through to insure anSMB. I have Statefarm and have mine insured for $7500 but the blue book on the van is more in the range of $3000. Some companies call this stated value. I can 't remember StateFarms highfalootin verbage for essentially the same thing.

Has anyone gone to see this one in person? You can see the rear quarter damage in the pic.

It's off CL as far as I can tell, says posting expired.

I went and looked at it several weeks ago. Lower rear fender damage is in the rocker panel area behind the wheel and broke the $30 water filler hose connection. The thing that turned me off on the van was the interior build out was quite dated. My plan was to convert it to 4X4 but it didn't seem like it would be worth the effort.

I never put the top up, but he said it was in good shape.

As an inexpensive 2WD it could be a good deal as he would take just over $5000.00.
