Diesels For Dummies

Mine is an '07, and it has burned many gallons of Mexican fuel. I spent a bunch of time talking to Ford, SMB and others who should be in the know and was told that the '08 and newer diesels can also burn the LSD fuel. The only difference in the engines is the decal on the fuel door. That was done to meet federal regs.
Head south and enjoy!!

Just out of curiosity, my '07 E-350 RB 6.l has an in service date of May 2007, but if you pull off the "dog house" and strain your neck, you can find a sticker near the manifold from International that shows a engine manufacture date of 2006 - possibly all the 2007's had engines built in 2006 - this might clear up the confusion as to why the 2007s can burn regular diesel?

Thanks, Scatter. That is reassuring. Coincidentally, while rummaging in my Ford
owner's manual for some other info, I stumbled on the following, right there in official
black and white:
"
FUEL REQUIREMENTS - CHOOSING THE RIGHT FUEL: VEHICLES
OPERATED WHERE ULTRA LOW SULFUR DIESEL FUEL IS NOT REQUIRED

... [dire warnings about the 6.4L engine, followed by]...
Vehicles equipped with a 6.0L engine that are operated in a market that
does not require ULSD fuel may be operated on higher sulfur fuel
without any engine fuel system or emissions-related concerns.
"

This is from the POWER STROKE OWNER'S GUIDE SUPPLEMENT supplied with my
2010-model-year (actually built in late 2009) Diesel E350.

So, while I'd still love to hear from anyone with a post-2007 Ford Diesel who has
actually driven long distances on Mexican fuel, between your assurances and Ford's
I'm feeling pretty comfortable now!

I didn't think there was any difference between an 07 6.0 and a 09 6.0 engine. Has someone found something different? A 6.4 out of a truck is a whole different story just like the current engine Ford is running that requires the additive.
