Wanted to share a few photos of my buildout so far. This started as a Colorado Camper Van pop top on a 7 seat Chateau passenger van interior with no buildout at all. Took out the first row of seats and used it for 2 years, but the layout was awkward and everything was in bins. There was also a lot of things that had to go in and out through the rear doors, which was a pain when we had bikes on the back or the weather was inclement.

This is a weekender build, its not for 3 weeks off grid. Its for me and my wife, so we didn't need a lower sleeper. Its a dry build, no bathroom, plumbed water, or cooking facilities. Primary goal was more usable space, a nicer couch than the rear seat, and storage that didn't need bins.

For cooking we use a white gas coleman stove or a fire, for water we use 2.5 gallon containers which is plenty for 2 people 1-2 nights with no water, and I do carry an MSR filter if needed.

So far just built out the drivers side bunk, it has storage underneath for a large EZup and bag chairs, or bag chairs and firewood. All the cooking and general camp stuff goes in the bunk as well.

Construction is a mix of 3/4" prefinished ply (structure) and 1/2" baltic birch (backers and drawer internals). One of the goals was I wanted it to look professional, so all hidden hinges, nice latches and pulls and slides. No hardware store stuff, no visible fasteners.

Waiting on some cushion covers, got those on order.

Still need to decide what to do with the passenger side - the fridge is in its home, I need to do some drawing of the other layout - right now the first black box houses all the electronics and the diesel heater, the second angled black box is a Digitial Designs 9500 series sub in a slot ported box. Hits pretty good for a single 10.

Covers came in - ordered from Royal Shade - order placed and to my door in a week. Material is Outdoor Linen in dark gray. The backs have little rubber sticky bumps to keep in place. They work real well. I ended up using 4" foam on the bottom, 2" foam on the back, but overstuffed the cushions with full size foam AND 1/2" thick yoga mat material on the bottom/back to give a little extra squish. Real comfy.
Wife and I headed out and got a little mud on the tires in northern Wisconsin this weekend, hit some nice US Forest Service roads up in the greater Waubeno area and greatly enjoyed some free camping on forest service lands.

Borderline glad to have the 4x4 on this trip - the forest service roads around here were all wet sand. The 4x4 and float from the big tires made it a non-issue. Also glad to not have a Sprinter or something too big, we ended up down some pretty narrow and overgrown 2 track. Was happy to have the ground clearance of the big tires when bombing some of the puddles, they were 6-8" deep in a few places.
