I am trying to decide if I should do the CARR steps or Nerf Bars and would like some in put on this.

So who has nerf bars, chrome or black, who made them(Westen-Smitty-ie), who installed them, and how are they installed? By that I mean are they bolted to the body or to the body/frame mounting bolts.
Any input would really be appreciated. Thanks guys!

I have the running boards that SMBw typically installs. They are definitely not what I consider nerf boards. They are first and foremost steps to make getting into and out of the SMB easier, and they do a great job in that aspect.

FWIW, I think hoop steps hang lower, so if you get those, think about having to remove them if you go on rocky terrain. The nerf boards are not practical to remove while on the trail. I'd avoid the electric steps if you plan on any real off-roading. They are very expensive to have hanging out there.

We have hoop step. We were initially worried about the geometry and potentially dragging them or breaking them, BUT we have had no such problems. We have not hit them at all.

We were prepared to use a retrofit to make them removeable if we need to, but we just haven't had to. We were going to do something similar to what the Badgers did.

Incidentially there should be no difference between RB and EB on the Ford vans. :b3:

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I am going to go with the CARR Super Steps for now and maybe do something like Badger did with the mounting. Then work on a set of Nerf Bars after I get the van back from SMB. Which they are still telling me that will be sometime around the end of August to the first part of September. In other words, I have a long hot summer to think about my van.
