Who do we have on the east coast looking to meet sometime within the next 3-4 months somewhere in New England?

I'm on Long Island and would welcome the chance to meet other SMBers. My van is now at Quigley awaiting 4x4 converse before going to SMB for the interior work so I won't actually have my SMB until sometime late winter/early spring

I may be able to coordinate an "open house" hosted by Overland Experts in CT and/or we combine this with a few day camp/drive somewhere scenic.

any thoughts, lets discuss

sheesh, wonder if we are invited :(

You folks are ALWAYS welcome, but you truly have it over us in terms of landscape, camping and outdoors, in general.

Who would be interested in the following:

Camping a night next few months in possible snow somewhere in CT, NY?
Thought is to find camp or private land for a half dozen of us to meet, cook out, campfire, etc...

Attending a free day or partial day with Overland Experts training in Haddam CT?
Thinking that they may give us a day or partial day of training to expose the group to their services. This could be combined with camping.

Just meeting one day at noon somewhere within 2 hour drive of NYC?
Find some meeting place off of Rte 95 and meet for a few hours, go home.

Yes, I *could* boondock if it's below 35 out, but I'd much rather camp somewhere with 30AMP service so I could use my electric heater.

Until I move away from a place where my main access is tunnels, therefore no propane - or until I decide to deal with finding a gasoline webasto, I am going heater-less.

I am well insulated, though, and would not suffer too much, but it's also approaching the cold season here. Too bad we didn't get it going last week. Was glorious.

When are we talking about?

And of course, worse comes to worse, I could always hook up my honda generator and plug the heater into that. Seems nuts, but it works that way.

I don't recall any groups on the site planning a winter meet and greet yet. Could be interesting. (Though hard to picture lengthy talks around the campfire. We'll just have to bring all the layers & get lotsa wood.) I think at those temps - special dispensation could certainly be granted to use your Honda Generator nomadcat. While nobody loves camping next to a generator, I would like to see/hear one up close just to better understand how loud (or quiet) they are. (And what they can power.)

There's a campground up in Phoenicia that I called yesterday. He said they'd be open till Christmas, but would close from then until March. I think that's the norm. Heck, most are closed already, I think.

He also said, by the way, that they have no electric, as it was washed out by the flooding.

Can anybody think of any scenic places open in the dead-of-winter around here?

There are a few great campgrounds here in CT that I need to check with if open.

this place is open all winter and has all the hook-ups. I have a call into them and assume they may cut us a deal during their slow time.

the other thought is to find some private land which I think can be done.

check it out

That would be great, esp. with the hookups. It would not deter me, but I must confess to seeing the name "Lyme, CT" and thinking "Tick."

The colder the better.

;-)
