Gallaher Head Lake

I know I'm not the first forum member to make it up there, but its such a beautiful spot I thought it was worth mentioning.

You get to Gallaher Head Lake via the Fortune Creek trail north of Roslyn (or Cicily Alaksa if you watched Northern Exposure). It's rated as an easy jeep trail. The only challenges were some dips in the road or short steep climbs that caused the rear bumper of my EB to drag.

As beautiful of a spot as it was the best part was being able to take my 75 year old somewhat disabled Dad camping and fishing the type of place he hasn't been in a long, long time, if ever, and have him be comfortable.

Hey velogeo...how did you get that canoe up there and tied down securely without a side ladder? I may have to break down and buy one.

After thinking on it a bit I feel obliged to include one more picture for those -- with EB vans -- that want to head up to the lake.

When I said I dragged the rear bumper when going through a dip in the road I mean dragged it, tearing off a back-up light and bending the bumper in the process. Don't mourn for me. I don't view it as a monument to my haste and stupidity -- which it probably is -- so mach as character. You know, like a dueling scar. It makes me sexy, right?

Forgot to mention. On the way out we passed an Earthroamer in Roslyn. I'd never seen one in person before. It was pretty. I waved at the guy, but he didn't wave back. I figure that proves the natural superiority of Sportsmobile drivers, and Sportmobiles obviously. Of course, he was driving into the sun and might not have seen me.


Ed - I do have a side ladder. It's on the drivers side due to layout considerations I won't bore you with. You will notice an awning window in the rear on the passenger side. As a side note, before the trip I got the Thule canoe kit for my roof rack for some added security. I tie good knots, but I knew it would get thrown around a bit. I was really happy with it. As well as it did for the canoe I may have to get a rig for our sit-a-top and start taking it on some of these backwoods trips.
