I haven't been around here much at all for about 4 years so I'll re-introduce myself. My wife & I are retired and travel around in the summer in our 02 SMB with our 2 dogs. The van is an 02 E350 long bed, 7.3 PSD and Quigley 4x4. I think the interior is called the 50 or 51 model - bench seat with fridge, stove and sink behind the driver. (Edit: it seems my old signature remembers the floorplan better than I.)

The reason that I'm back is that I want to get some info on locking differentials. This is inspired by an epic 3 hour battle with a Montana Mudhole last month in which the winch died with the job half done.

I'll go find the proper section of the site for my mechanical questions.

It's good to be back, Viejo

Guessing you won the battle with the Mud Hole since you're available to introduce yourself, Welcome back. You're obviously aware of the many talents many of the members here possess, so i'm sure you'll receive useful advice for your dilemma.

Hola Viejo! Good to have you back around.

I still remember that day we barely missed each other in your town. I'll catch you next time!

Howdy Viejo - wow, really long time!! Welcome back:b5:

RE question about lockers - we just had Agile add an ARB Air locker up front on our TTB front end along with the bigger brakes :d5: We have the factory LSD rear. The reason for front only is our use in winter conditions where LSD is preferred to a locker for traction. The front locker will help us get out of a problem or for those extra traction design situations, but we can still have front traction with the front diff in open configuration.

We have not had an opportunity to use the locker yet.

What happened with the winch??

Lockers are more about not getting stuck to begin with, which may or may not have prevented your misfortune in this particular case.

Do you already have a set of traction boards?

Granted, a locker takes up far less space.
