Hi folks!
I've always been fascinated by 4x4 vans and more lately SMB builds. Been lurking for a while and now's the time to jump into the forum. My attraction to SMBs has become more urgent with the arrival of my 1st baby/son, who is now 7 months old. Getting out and road tripping or camping just hasn't been easy in the old Tundra 4x4 with my dear wife and now son. The only way I see to keep everyone happy is with a SMB. I'm on the hunt for one and look forward to the adventures possible with my family, and contributing to this fantastic community.
Cheers!

Well, I did it! I'm a real SMB owner now!

I purchased, from the original owner, a 2003 Ford E-350 SMB: 82000 Miles, 5.4 V8, EB, 2x4, LS, 3 leather Capt'n seats, penthouse, bench seats that fold into a bed, sink, micowave, built in Icebox!?.
I can't ID the SMB layout, something like an EB18? Doesn't seem to be a standard build.

We already did a holiday run to Sonoma County to visit the inlaws. The van drives GREAT, even through hours of rain. NO LEAKS! Only one minor hiccup, the coil pack on cylinder #1 died. Luckily the 1st toy I installed was a ScanGauge, it gave me the error code on the spot and armed me with the info I needed to get everything back on track!

Now that it's desert season in the SW I'm plotting to camp out there every possible moment with the family. I'm so stoked!

Happy New Year all!

Yeah, I had half a dozen very different vans slip through my fingers, day late and a dollar short type thing. For this one, luckily I had a friend in the area who is a SMB owner that could look it over for me. This bought me some time to pounce.

Nice Van man! :) Do you see 4x4 in its future?? Mind me asking what you paid for it?

I'd like to have it converted to 4x4, Agile Offroad is so close. I need to take it down there to have them look it over and tell me what's possible at what $$$.
But I think I'll wait and test it out, see what the limited slip can do for now.

I got a great price on a cash deal, felt like I won the lottery! Let me just say that the guy selling was wealthy, lived in a big house on a tiny lot by the beach, had bought a new truck and his wife wanted the van gone.

This deal does reflect some things that need attention: The brakes needed the hydraulic control unit replaced, that's one of the most expensive parts in that system (now fixed). And the Starcool AC isn't working, which means the dash ac isn't working either. I'll try to get the AC fixed but my gut feeling tells me the Starcool system will be too hard/expensive and will have to be cut out. In any event I'll get the dash AC fixed, I've got a few months before that becomes a hot issue.

Yea the lay out was different, but the third captain chair is pretty sweet. I thought the icebox was kinda neat.

Congratulations! .....I bought a spare coil and have it in the van for those occasions like you just described......I'll probably never need it now that I have it...and an OBDII scanner.

Sweet van dude! Looking forward to the 4x4 conversion for some real action!
