I may need a new grey water tank. Was checking on them and I can't believe the prices.. $250 for a 10 gallon plastic box?! Anyone know where one can find these tanks for a reasonable price? - Thanks

What is wrong with the one you have?

Well, the drain fitting was broken when I bought the van. No big deal I thought, I'll fix it. Little did I know how difficult polyethylene is to work with. Spin weld - nope, don't have the tools. Heat gun weld - nope, plastic doesn't take to welding, made a big mess. Adhesive - maybe, but polyethylene is notoriously difficult to glue.

The spin-welded polyethylene tanks are great.. until there is a break - they are difficult to repair at home.

I just got one from ClassAcustoms . com. I thought it was very reasonable.
Available on Amazon but cheaper thru their website with free shipping.

Yep, welding PP requires a plastic welder. You can get one at Harbor Freight that will do the job. Spin welding - router with the proper bit.

So, the fitting itself was cracked down the threads because some one over tightened it?

One piece of advise for PP tank threaded fittings - DO NOT use the Teflon tape. That build up will put lots of pressure on the fitting. I use Rector Seal exclusively for those fittings.

Is there enough of the tank side fitting exposed that you could put a hose clamp around the perimeter? If so, a plastic weld on the outside of the fitting plus a hose clamp and Rector Seal on threads might just do the trick.

I bought a welder and tried it. They will melt plastic, but melting two pieces of heavy plastic together (weld) is beyond what they can do. I just created a mess and lots of smoke!

I'm going with the rubber grommet as pictured. Superior I think because they seal well and are a bit flexible and will take a little shock. The spun-weld fittings are rigid - if they crack, break, or leak, they are very difficult to repair.

But I need to put a new piece of polyethene on the end of the tank so I get the right size hole. Thinking of trying the 3M DP8005. I don't like using glue for anything, but it might work.

That is a Ronco RV23. We have that exact tank in our two rigs for part of our 20 gallon fresh water tankage.

Yes that's it exactly.

Here's my nemesis. Seems so simple.. just need to attach the new end piece onto the tank. That will give me the correct (smaller) size hole. The thing fights me all the way! The plastic is thick and heavy - it wont weld right.

I wonder what the builder used 25 years ago on those sensor bolts? Seems to stick and seal perfectly.
