I have some pics in my gallery that i wish to delete. Everytime i try this it tells me that i am not allow to do this.
Why?
Thanks for helping

I think you need a top level moderator to delete them for you. Jage (or Herb maybe).

If i remember right, I believe the reason why is that we had a member who was a prolific poster who all of a sudden deleted all his photos which played major havoc with the threads they were inserted into. The delete rights were taken away after that.

I guess it is not a valid reason. With image right laws, if the author of a post ask to delete images, administrators must delete it. Then I guess it would be much simpler to give access again to each member to manage content of his own gallery... :b7:

Rabble, rabble, rabble. Nope, if you use the gallery you've basically given the forum the rights- if that's not cool you should probably reread your user agreement. And you're going to be really mad about what Google and Apple have had you agree to... but, digressing: Among other things the forum is meant to be an information archive- if you'll note you can still find my first post and all the information attached, read what an SMB-less noob I was and all the idiot things I've posted. This can be very important to members trying to find information, say on a van that's been sold multiple times, or that one time that guy posted about that screw hidden in the fridge molding...

When a user comes through and destroys information they've contributed, from my POV that's vandalism and among other things it destroys the flow of the thread- nothing worse than not being able to follow a 3 year old thread because half of it is missing and the responses are to no one- the nicest member suddenly looks like a crass rude person because the context is destroyed, or the answer to a question disappears. The discussion itself is important, if not people would actually use the wiki (which is the opposite of discussion- a static information source). You may have someone saying to themselves, schluchtenflitzer did such a nice write up I don't need to do one, and then schluchtenflitzer (not that he would mind you) destroys the whole thread and the community has nothing but a post saying "Really good writeup +1".

Still, if it bothers you: don't use the gallery or attach pictures, meaning- if you want to have more control you can host the pictures off-site, like on picasaweb from google. Tutorial

Haha, I'm such a dictator! :t1: "Go use ExPo if you don't like it" :a2: Sorry, couldn't resist.

But, hopefully it's obvious that we're not intending to hang a user out to dry with said policies, but it is very frustrating when one or more users abuse the tools and destroy information for no reason other than they're having a hissy. Seriously, if you want pictures deleted, contact me and I'll take care of it. It's a PITA for me, but it's worth the time to prevent another round of thread destruction (which is way more of a PITA to clean up).

Sorry, I really didn't want to make any polemic. But as an administrator of a photography forum, we of course already have many debates about picture rights, with many different opinions. Then I asked two different lawyers to inform me about these right aspects. Their answers were clear: the law garantees picture rights to the author and to people/oeuvre appearing on picture, which cannot be reduced by any general conditions or general user agreements. Only a specific agreement for each picture can hand over rights to another contracting person/organization/company and that only for specified use. So our forum user agreement would not have prevailed against the law. Thus, even with general user agreement approved by our members, if one of them asks us to delete any picture, we don't have any other choice than deleting it. Just for you to know it... Without forgetting that on a photography forum, this matter is of course much more sensitive than here.

But I want to say: I have personaly no problem to publish pictures here and will never ask to delete them! :a3: Only wanted to inform you about that situation.

Somehow I think this is Switzerland law/lawyers, if people in photos in the USA had rights the paparazzi would be homeless. :i2:
